Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on Kenyans to uphold national unity, peace and economic progress, saying the country must build on the sacrifices of its freedom fighters by creating more opportunities for future generations.
Mudavadi made the remarks on Monday during the 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, where he joined President William Ruto and other Kenyans in honouring individuals who contributed to the country’s independence and development.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Mudavadi said Kenya’s current generation has a responsibility to preserve the legacy of the country’s heroes by building a nation founded on opportunity, unity and prosperity.
“Our heroes fought for Kenya’s freedom. Our generation must build on their sacrifice by creating a nation of opportunity, unity and prosperity,” Mudavadi said.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary linked Kenya’s economic progress to the government’s efforts to improve public services, create jobs and expand opportunities for citizens, arguing that economic growth should translate into tangible benefits for ordinary Kenyans.
He said peace and stability remained essential to the country’s development, noting that a peaceful environment allows businesses to thrive, attracts investment and creates opportunities for young people to excel in different fields, including sports.
Mudavadi also highlighted the importance of recognising Kenya’s sporting talent, describing the country’s progress as one that should extend beyond economic indicators to include opportunities for young people to compete and succeed on the global stage.

His remarks come as national celebrations provide an opportunity for leaders to reflect on Kenya’s independence journey and the responsibilities facing the current generation in addressing economic and social challenges.
Mashujaa Day is observed annually on October 20 to honour individuals who contributed to Kenya’s struggle for independence and those who have continued to serve the country through their contributions to national development.
Mudavadi said the greatest tribute to the country’s heroes would be the creation of a peaceful and united nation in which every generation has a fair opportunity to succeed.
“Our greatest tribute to our Mashujaa is to build a peaceful, united and prosperous Kenya where every generation has a fair chance to succeed,” he said.
